Electrical Protection - GFCI
Water and electricity do not mix and the use of proper GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) is recommended with any electrical feature (pumps, UV lamps, lights, etc.) used in conjuction with your pond. The GFCI device is simply plugged into an outlet that are to your electronic features in the water garden. For example, if a water pump has an electrical malfunction/frayed cord which can present a shock the GFCI device will detect this small amount of electrical current and will automatically shut the pump off before the shock is experienced. The GFCI should not to be confused with a regular circuit breaker. GFCI's are exceptionally sensitive to preventing electrical shocks.
