Umbrella Palm. Wonderful green foliage with umbrella-like leaves. It is a most wonderful plant for it is equally happy in or out of the water. The movement in the wind is very attractive. Being tender it must be wintered indoors and can be grown in a pot placed in the pool for the summer, and taken in as a room plant for winter.

Aquatic Red Flowered Australia Canna

Aquatic Red Flowered Australia Canna. A beautiful 4 to 5 foot tall full plant. Leaves are a deep glossy burgundy-black . Flowers are a deep red. Makes an attractive colorful location in the center of your pond or that special empty area in the corner! In northern States, can be brought indoors during he winter months and placed into a sunny window keeping the roots in a container of water. Enjoy and return the plant to the pond the next Spring!

Papyrus

Papyrus is the famous Egyptian paper plant. The stalks are triangular and attain a height of 5 to 8 feet. At the top is a tuft of long thread-like leaves which gives the plant a most novel appearance. Shallow water and rich soil spell the best combination for this plant, but it also does well in ground kept slightly moist. It has been suggested that this very species of papyrus was at one time abhorred by the crocodile and this led to the construction of the cradle of the infant Moses. Good as a tall background plant for pools and ponds.

Dwarf Papyrus. A most desirable plant. Grows to about 2 feet. The thread like leaves are shorter and more compact than the Papyrus. An excellent plant that grows fast and very showy. The green spikes on top of the plant makes this a most attractive plant for that special place in your water garden pool.

Dwarf Giant Papyrus

Dwarf Giant Papyrus. An oxymoron Dwarf Papyrus, with strong stems! Papyrus are either dwarf or large, this one has both traits. A dwarf size, but with attractive large stems. A most unsual plant that can be brought indoors for the winter months. Distinct mop-like heads make the plant very attactive. Grows to about two to three feet. Makes a most attractive display in any pool. The stems can be made into the well know Egyptian paper as described in our book Tricker 1101 Water Garden Questions and Answers. In the summer breezes the plant adds a touch of motion that is appealing to all.

Sprial Palm. A Brazilian oddity something like the Umbrella Palm. Greenish white flowers produced in umbels. The attractive leaves spiral around the base of the plant. A plant enjoyed by Tricker customers over 70 years.

Velvet Leaf A member of the orchid family having soft sunrise flowers edged in white. After blooming the flowering stems will slowly drop into the water and begin to form a new plant. Attractive pastel velvety leaves. Introduced by Tricker's before the 1920s and has been a favorite in the decades that followed. A wonderful addition to any water garden!

New Pickerel Rush

New Pickerel Rush. From the British Guiana and related to the North American species but far more outstanding. The heart shaped foliage is dark , waxy green and is taller than the native variety. The flowers resemble our native Pickerel Rush except that there are two shades of color in the petals-light and dark violet blue. Several florets open as the previous ones close, thus giving a long flowering time to the spikes. Note: With the abundance of flowers and growth, this plant requires much nourishment and must be planted in plenty of rich soil or fertilized often during the season.

Chinese Water Chestnut. Very attractive plant with cylindrical stems. Produces a tuber that is used in oriental cooking, hence its name. Their attractive appearance and neat growth add much to the beauty of the water garden.

Spider Lily. A native plant of the West Indies that produces clusters of fragrant white flowers. The petals are narrow and curving and give the plant a characteristic spider like appearance.

Parrot Feather

Parrot Feather. Is a favorite plant for a fountain basin or for growing at the edges of pools. The leaves, a delicate whitish-green and very feathery, grow in dense whorls around the stem. They reach to a good length, dropping gracefully over the fountain or pond edge and turning up to 3 to 4 inches at the tip. Thus they form a living green mantle and make a charming picture when, in late summer, the tips will turn crimson. They can be considered semi-tropical, in that they will survive mild winters or protected areas.

Water Poppy

Water Poppy. A beautiful aquatic with thick oval, floating, deep green leaves and handsome three petaled clear yellow flowers resembling a poppy. The flowers have dark black stamens. Since the flowers are a wondeful clear yellow, the dark black stamens show off in a most attractive manner. The plant is very free-flowering and most prolific. William Tricker in his famous 1897 "The Water Garden" book shows a picture of this plant. He has written that the Water Poppy has "cheery yellow flowers". If you grow it, we are sure you will agree.

It has a wonderful flotation system of bulbous material it uses to spread across the water. Mellon Swords. One of the most beautiful species of the genus. It can be grown in a bright or slightly shady area of your pool. The young leaves are an intensive red and the color fades as leaves become larger, later olive to dark green. The white flowers bloom above the water and can grow to 3 feet in height.
