Water Hornwort - Oxygenating Plant

Water Hornwort (Ceraophyllum dermersum). This native, hardy milfoil-like aquatic plant is very decorative, of a delicate appearance, and create a green tangle with their fine linear leaf segments, very suitable for fishes and their fry because they are hosts to numerous plankton. The night motions of young vegatative tops in the evening are very interesting in that the leaves on the top part of the stem close when the light gets dim. Excellent for removing harmful nitrates from the water and is able to photosynthesize under the ice in winter.
