Henry Shaw. In 1917 famous Missouri Botanical Garden hybridizer, George Pring produced this wonderful hybrid and named it after Henry Shaw, who in 1899 founded the world famous Missouri Botanical Gardens. The flowers are eight inches in diameter with three shades of blue, including an unusually large number of golden stamens tipped blue. The inside of the sepals are violet colored. It is cup shaped and very fragrant. The leaves are small, dark green flecked reddish brown on top and purple beneath. Also, click on the black and white image from The Missouri Botanical Garden Bulletin that proudly showed Henry Shaw Water Lily growing in their water gardens in 1922.  Grow Henry Shaw and witness the beauty that Mr. Pring saw and to name it after the founder of a world renown garden.
