This "Lustrous" water lily shows off large blossoms that are a satiny rose-pink shade, and cup-shaped. Its sepals are brown underneath and a deep pink inside. The brilliant yellow stamens form a thick cluster.
They grow vigorously and readily seed. Our 1922 catalog description in its introduction reads A new variety of our own introduction. It is a distinct improvement over any known variety of pink water lily. The bloom is large, perfect cup-shaped, with a host of deep rose-pink petals, while the center is closely packed with yellow stamens. There is a peculiar silvery sheen to the color, which gives a wonderful luster.
Today, the "Lustrous" water lily still stands strong among the pink colored water lilies.
Hybridized By: William Tricker, Inc. in 1922 while under the leadership of Albert Buskirk.

William Tricker (born 1853) started his commercial water lily culture in the United States in the late 1800's when he started hybridizing water lilies and studied what helps their growth. The shape, colors and hardiness of his beautiful aquatic plants have withstood the test of time.
In the early 1890's, he earned a reputation as a leader in aquatic lifeforms from hybridiing many water lilies. His water lily nursery and company, in both Ohio and Pennsylvania, was passed down tthrough his family until the 1980's when Richard Lee purchased the Ohio company. In 1892, the first William Tricker mail-order catalog was mailed to customers across the nation, and we still do, today.
